21st Century Decolonization: The Ongoing Liberation Struggle of Original Nations and Peoples

Description

Discussing how Original Nations and Peoples have historically and currently continue to struggle for their rights to self-determination from the invader state. We will talk about examples in the 21st century of how Original Nations and Peoples are continuing to raise awareness about colonization and their inter-generational resistance to domination and dehumanization. Also, what Native and non-Native folks feel they can contribute to the liberation of Original Nations and Peoples.

Sky Morris

Sky Roosevelt-Morris comes from the White Mountain Apache Nation and Shawnee Nation. She is a current graduate student at CU Denver working on her master’s in Political Science and is one of the native scholars that does work at the 4th World Center for the Study of Indigenous Law and Policy. Also, Sky is the current president of the Native American Student Organization at CU Denver, which aspires to raise consciousness on Auraria campus about current struggles Native Peoples face here in the U.S. and also around the world. When not at school, Sky is fortunate enough to be a grassroots organizer in the Denver native community. She has been a long time member of the American Indian Movement of Colorado, she also works with the 4 Winds American Indian Council. Sky hopes to continue her education and work towards a PhD and JD after completing her studies at CU Denver.
