About the Festival
The Accessibility Awareness Festival (formerly known as the Disability Awareness Festival) is an annual, tri-institutional event that focuses on raising awareness for the importance of accessible community and learning environments for individuals with disabilities. This event is the collaborative effort of the following institutions: Community College of Denver’s Accessibility Center, University of Colorado Denver: Disability Resources & Services, Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Access Center, and Mental Health Center of Denver: 2Succeed Education and Employment.
Originally established in 2000, as Disability Awareness Day, this event has morphed into a much larger event that provides exciting opportunities to learn more about individuals with disabilities, accessible/assistive technology, resources, and more.
Each year the number of vendors/community and campus partnerships continues to grow, and nationally and internationally known entertainers perform/speak. This is a festive day that seeks to increase disability awareness, while also celebrating the achievements of individuals with disabilities. This year’s event is scheduled for Oct. 4th and is a kick off for October, which is Disability Awareness Month.
How to Volunteer
We need volunteers! Visit the following link to fill out the Volunteer Form: Link to Volunteer Form.
Volunteers are needed for set up and take down of the tents and tables as well as to provide the vendors with water and information. People can volunteer around their individual schedules and do not need to work the entire length of the festival.
If you would like to request your organization or group to have a presence for this year’s festival, please complete the Community Partner Request Form.
This year, approximately 60 campus and community partners will be on site. For more information on our community partners, please see our List of Community Partners.
