B1: Handling the Financial Challenges of Children with Disabilities

April 15, 2016 @ 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM

Mary J. Schultz of the National Endowment for Financial Education will present this lively, engaging workshop that helps the caregivers of children with disabilities handle their money. With this knowledge, the children may have more opportunity, including the change to go to college. This workshop is available for any organization to download for their audience. It addresses the seven million children with special needs in the United States and their parents, who face a unique combination of financial challenges. Not only must they meet the day-to-day stresses and expenses of caring for a child with a disability as well as plan for that child’s lifetime-care needs, they also must provide for the financial needs of the rest of the family. This workshop teaches such topics as organizing financial records, managing money, preparing income taxes, and dealing with estate planning.
