C1: A Freshman Course Project that Grows Understanding

April 15, 2016 @ 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM

If we don’t teach a specific course on culture or bias, surely there is little beyond modeling respectful behavior that we can do regarding these topics. And if our students are mostly white, these topics certainly have little importance anyway. I don’t believe either of these statements to be true, at all. Yet I do believe they are common assumptions in Higher Ed. This session will look at a final project in an Interpersonal Communication class in the far North of Minnesota that routinely grows world-mindedness while providing Cross- Discipline learning as well. This session focuses on some research and theory, but mostly on Application of theory- where the rubber meets the road. Collaboration will be an important aspect of this session as well.
